Summary
Boris (6) and Kai (2) are two golden cocker spaniels who are being rehomed following the sad bereavement of their owner. Due to this, information about their early history is limited.
They are currently in kennels together, where staff describe them as gorgeous boys who have settled well. Both sleep soundly, enjoy human company, and show calm, friendly behaviour when passing other dogs. They have visited these kennels a few times over the last 18 months and are well‑liked by the team.
The boys appear bonded, and this relationship will need to be assessed carefully. They may benefit from staying together, but it is also possible they could adapt to separate homes if their emotional wellbeing allows.
Despite the upheaval they have experienced, both dogs are coping well in a structured environment and would thrive in a calm, patient home where they can regain stability and confidence.

Ideal Home
Both boys would suit gentle, reassuring homes with fosterers who can offer routine, patience, and positive reinforcement.
If rehomed together, they will need adopters who can manage two dogs with different energy levels and training needs.
Boris needs a quieter, more predictable environment with calm handling and steady reassurance. Kai, being younger and more energetic, enjoys play time and needs someone to help him learn boundaries and settle.
Energy & Exercise
Both dogs likely had reduced exercise in recent months due to their owner’s ill health. They are both overweight and will need a gradual increase in activity paired with a healthy diet.
Neither dog’s history of mental enrichment is known, but both would benefit from gentle, confidence‑building activities and low‑pressure enrichment.
Training
Their previous training history is unknown although they both seem quick to learn and will need support with general manners and basic cues. Kai is energetic and bouncy, and will benefit from learning calm behaviours and boundaries.
Both respond well to positive reinforcement and would do best with a fosterer who can recognise subtle stress signals and help them feel safe.
Behaviours
Shared behaviours
-
Both boys are described as lovely with people.
-
Both are non‑reactive to other dogs in kennels.
-
Both showed understandable stress immediately after their owner’s death when staying briefly with relatives.
-
Neither have shown any behavioural concerns in kennels.
Where they differ
Boris
To be transparent, the following information is included, although we are unsure how accurate it is.
There have been a couple of mentions of incidents involving Boris around entering or sharing a car crate with Kai, particularly when a toy was present. Reports mention growling, snarling, and possibly a couple of bites, but:
-
No incident was witnessed directly
-
Circumstances are unclear
-
No injury details are available
-
He has never bitten Kai
-
No concerns have been observed in kennels
-
A crate divider appears to have resolved the issue
Kai
Kai has never shown any behavioural issues.
He is a young, enthusiastic dog who can be bouncy and jump up, including onto furniture. With training and structure, this is expected to improve. After his owner’s death, he showed anxiety through some bedding destruction, which is understandable in context.
Meeting New People
Both boys are described as lovely, friendly, and sociable when meeting people.
Children
Untested – therefore 16+ only.
Dog/Cat Test
Both boys are non‑reactive to other dogs in kennels. Neither has been cat tested.
Home Alone
It is unknown how either dog copes when left alone. Fosterers should plan for a gradual, supportive approach to building independence. However, both dogs settle very well into kennels environment where they are left alone for periods of time during the day.
Medical Summary

No ongoing medical or behavioural concerns recorded
-
Both dogs are up to date with vaccinations, flea, and worming treatments.

-
Boris: Previously a fussy eater and occasionally hand‑fed, but currently eating well in kennels.
-

Sleeping
Both boys sleep well in kennels with no concerns noted.
