Become A Fosterer

HERO IMAGE 13.png

Fostering a dog with Spaniel Rescue Foundation means giving them a chance at a new adventure, a new family and a place to call home.

We don’t own kennels or a rehoming centre, so every dog in our care is assessed and adopted from a foster home. That’s why our fosterers are the beating heart of our charity. Without them, we simply couldn’t do what we do.

Support Every Step of the Way

Every dog will remain our responsibility throughout their time with you. From the moment you register your interest, you’ll be supported by our dedicated teams:

  • Our Foster team provide day-to-day guidance to make sure you and your foster dog have everything you need

  • Our Education team provide training and resources to help you improve your handling skills and knowledge of dog behaviour

  • Our Pastoral team help you build local connections so that you have community support

  • Our Wellbeing team ensure you have a safe space to talk should you face any challenges.

Types of Fostering

We’re generally looking for what we call 'rehome fosterers’, who care for a dog for around three-six weeks until they’re adopted. However, a dog may have to stay longer if they need a very specific type of forever home, which could take a while to find.

A smaller number of our dogs require ‘lifelong foster care’ due to old age or specific medical needs. In these cases:

  • Fosterers would be expected to cover everyday costs (food, flea/worm treatments, etc).

  • Spaniel Rescue Foundation would cover emergency and condition-related medical expenses.
