A Little About Dewi’s Past 

Dewi was found abandoned and came to us from a dog warden. It is heartbreaking to think that after he served his 7 days in kennels, nobody came forward to claim him. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was shy and nervous, with matted hair and stains on his legs and belly. He found it difficult to approach humans and his tail would be tucked between his legs. He tried so hard to approach his fosterer but would then run back to his safe space.  Despite his rough start Dewi has shown remarkable resilience and is blossoming into a more confident and loving dog. 

 

Ideal Home for Dewi 

• Dewi has come a long way in his foster home and is ready to find his forever family who will continue to help him grow in confidence and shower him with love.

• Adults/older children (16+): Dewi is not a playful dog so would thrive in a home with adults only or with older, dog-savvy children due to his preference for a quieter environment. 

• Companion dog:  Dewi would need another dog(s) with similar energy level in his new home to help him grow in confidence.

• Other animals:  He has not lived with any cats in his foster home. However he has not chased or reacted to any cats outside the house. He has seen and been fine around sheep, goats and horses.  Ducks and birds are of huge interest when they are loose and the fosterer is currently working on the ‘leave’ command. 

• Quiet environment: While he is not reactive to household noises like the vacuum or TV, a calmer household would be ideal. He doesn’t bark in the garden.

 

 

Personality and Behaviour 

• Affectionate & loving: Dewi loves to snuggle up on the sofa for a cuddle and enjoys being close to his humans. 

• Active: He loves going for walks and running around in fields, although his energy levels are quite low. 

• Calm around dogs: Dewi is happy to share his home with other dogs although he doesn’t tend to play with them or toys.  Outside the home, Dewi loves to greet every dog he meets with a sniff, and he enjoys their company.  

• Gentle: Dewi has never bitten a dog or human. 

• Travel-friendly: Dewi loves car rides and settles in very well. 

• Good with routine: He is learning quickly and gaining confidence with a consistent routine. At night he sleeps downstairs and settles down with the other dogs. He doesn’t show any anxiety. He does like to go out early and will give you two or three barks if you are late getting up!

• Can be nervous: He can be a bit anxious in new situations. He has shown reluctance when initially meeting new people and can be more nervous of men. He will get anxious if you move for example your hands or mop around too quickly. 

• Separation Anxiety: Dewi shows mild separation anxiety and might bark a few times when left alone but settles quickly. He is not destructive in any way.

• Food Enthusiast: He loves his meals and enjoys treats like long-lasting chews and stuffed Kongs.

Training and Health 

• Weight: Dewi is underweight at 15.2kgs. He slowly needs to put on a bit more weight.  Currently he has three meals a day and is fed on Milles Wolf heart and other natural treats (rabbit ears etc)

• House Training: Dewi is partially house-trained. He is learning quickly but will initially need regular encouragement to go outside, especially after meals and naps. 

• Lead Training: Currently working on leash manners and walking with a harness. 

• Vet Visits:

• Medical history: Dewi is healthy, has been neutered, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and worms.  He has been checked for cataracts and is managing well. He arrived in foster with conjunctivitis which cleared up with eye drops from the vet.
